This is a full time, in office role based in Santa Monica, CA.
The Head of Documentaries is responsible for overseeing and managing the production, distribution, and promotion of documentary content within SKG Entertainment. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong passion for documentary film and a deep understanding of the documentary landscape, as well as excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
Key responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
1. Attract filmmakers and obtain exclusive rights to compelling subject matter.
2. Developing and implementing strategies to increase the visibility and impact of SKG's documentary offerings.
3. Building and managing relationships with key stakeholders, including filmmakers, partners, and distributors.
4. Overseeing the production of documentaries, ensuring that projects are on time, within budget, and of the highest quality.
5. Conducting market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive threats in the documentary space.
6. Evaluating new documentary projects and deciding which to pursue based on their potential impact, budget, and overall fit with SKG's goals.
7. Leading and mentoring a team of documentary producers, editors, and other production staff.
8. Negotiating and securing distribution deals for the company's documentaries with television networks, streaming services, and other partners.
9. Representing SKG at industry events, conferences, and film festivals to build relationships, promote the company's documentaries, and stay current with industry trends.
10. Staying informed about trends in documentary production, distribution, and promotion, and making recommendations to senior management on how to stay ahead of the curve.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Successful track record in producing and distribution of documentaries
• Over 10 years' experience in field
• Able to foster and effectively manage working relationships with peers, senior leadership, and board members.
• Strong relationships with talents and other projects
• Strategically minded
• Entrepreneurial management style
• Experience working with Private Equity business preferred
