Director, Interior Design (Book Production)

Reporting to the head of interior design, the design director is responsible for overseeing freelance book designers and designing book interiors for, primarily, four-color lifestyle books. The director identifies the right designer for each project â€'' including in-house staff and freelance designers â€'' and works closely with Editorial to ensure the vision for each book is realized and with the jacket designers to ensure the package is cohesive. The director also works closely with the composition, production, copyediting, prepress, and managing editorial departments throughout the production process to meet deadlines and to ensure designs meet printing, composition, and digital production standards and best practices.
Requirements:
• 10 years of experience designing book interiors, including complex designs
• Experience selecting and directing freelance designers
• Expert in InDesign and proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat
• Well-organized and able to set priorities under tight deadlines
• Understanding of production and printing processes for one-, two- and four-color books
• Excellent organizational and communication skills

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The annual salary for this position is $100,000.00 - $120,000.00
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
