Shout! Factory is seeking a Director, Business and Legal Affairs to work in our Business Affairs department. We offer consumers an array of nostalgic TV shows, cult and popular films, animation, and classic and contemporary music on DVD, Blu-ray, television, and a wide array of digital distribution outlets. We value creativity, quality work and an entrepreneurial spirit. We also place an emphasis on fulfilling expectations by providing outstanding product and customer service.
This position is a key role involving the structuring, negotiating and drafting all manner of content acquisition and distribution agreements. Practical up to date knowledge of the industry, including windowing strategies and the evolving theatrical, VOD, broadcast and home video business is required. Additionally, the director will advise internal stake holders while balancing legal risks with the company's business goals in a constantly changing environment.
This position reports to the Vice President of Business Affairs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Negotiate and draft content distribution agreements with domestic and international licensors across multiple distribution platforms including theatrical, broadcast, SVOD, AVOD, TVOD, EST, and home video.
• Take responsibility for all licensing and contractual matters related to emerging digital business strategies including content licensing, digital content production, and vendor/partner relationships.
• Handle day-to-day internal legal matters such as trademarks, risk management, marketing/sales/publicity concerns, settlements, and clearances.
• Supervise all third party inbound and outbound music licensing.
• Manage all union/guild matters to insure contract compliance and advising internal parties of potential ramifications.
• Take responsibility for all international licensing matters including building relationships, negotiation, and drafting.
• Assist with any corporate litigation issue or threats which may arise.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 2 - 3 years of experience in the home entertainment industry;
• Willing to roll up your sleeves in a high volume environment with constantly changing priorities;
• Must possess a JD and be licensed to practice in any state;
• Must have the ability to operate and make real time decisions under pressure and with minimal supervision;
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to relay information to all levels of personnel and personality types both inside and outside the company;
• Must be computer literate and be highly proficient with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel; Film Track experience helpful.
