Volunteer - Film Festival Assistant Coordinator
Working at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival is a fun experience that mostly involves watching movies and meeting indie filmmakers. Your main roles are helping usher people in and out of the theater, making sure that the theater lobby is clear for red carpet photography, and this year to help with Covid compliance. Assistant Coordinators get a free festival t-shirt and a festival pass, are offered a free meal before the evening begins, and are trained so that they can answer questions such as, ''Which way is the restroom?'' and ''When does the next film start?'' Each evening is around 4-5 hours, depending upon the date.
We prefer to have a handful of Assistant Coordinators every night so that they can take turns working the lobby and also taking breaks to go into the theater to watch films. We want you to see the wonderful films that we are screening so that you can meet and talk to the filmmakers. The festival runs for eight evenings and we simply hope for people to choose to work several of them; we do not expect you to be available eight nights in a row. During the 8 day festival, two evenings begin at 5 PM, five evenings begin at 6 PM, and one day begins at 11 AM.
As noted above, this year we will be checking all guests for their vaccination status, which involves checking picture IDs with vaccination records and then stamping the top of the person's hand so that they can then go in and out without showing proof again.
All Assistant Coordinators will also be required to show us their full vaccination status before entering the theater.
This is an unpaid position, but anyone who works at least 4 evenings of the festival will receive an additional gift. The Sherman Oaks Film Festival is run by a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization for the arts.
