DESCRIPTION:
Job Purpose:
The Development Executive will be a creative, strategic, and administrative contributor to the Creative Department. They will work closely with the Senior Director, Creative, and the VP, Strategic Partnerships & Scripted Content to bring new projects to screen for Canadian and global audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Source and review strong, novel, and marketable IP from original ideas, spec scripts, novels, articles, etc. that align with Shaftesbury’s brand and creative ambitions.
• Work with creatives to strengthen scripts and associated creative deliverables to improve their quality and marketability.
• Help hone and prepare strong written, visual, and verbal pitch materials to bring to potential partners and specified market targets, including international co-production opportunities.
• Read and review submissions to provide summaries, notes, feedback, and go-forward recommendations for each project.
• Maintain consistent outreach and communication with agents, representatives, and creatives to cultivate new projects and take pitches.
• Manage time and resources appropriately to ensure proper prioritization of projects across the development slate.
• For each project assigned, keep track of all creative deliverables and scheduling.
• Communicate across departments to ensure all personnel responsible for managing each project are informed and capable of executing on their assigned tasks (Business and Legal, Accounting, Marketing, Production, etc.).
• Prepare and deliver strong funding applications for development financing and slate support.
• Liaise with Business and Legal Affairs to ensure all paperwork for the various development projects are in place.
• Stay up to date on current programming and marketplace trends, and current events of interest to Canadian and global audiences.
• Take part in industry networking events and conferences to establish and maintain relationships, cultivate creative opportunities, and glean insights from industry leaders.
Skills and Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of scripted television industry experience.
• Experience working on prime-time creative content with emphasis on story development and series development.
• Good understanding of television broadcasters’ needs and current industry market trends and landscape.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• Ability to continually prioritize and multi-task assignments.
• Ability to work well with all internal and external stakeholders across various projects.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat.
