Position: Director, Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Reports To: Head Athletic Trainer and General Manager
Department: Medical/Baseball Operations
Status: Full Time; Exempt
Position Summary:
The Employee Assistance Program Director is responsible for leading the Employee Assistance Program, which provides a variety of referral services and assistance for Baseball and Front Office staff. A fundamental knowledge of the game and organizational dynamics, as well as open-mindedness, creativity, flexibility and an ability to think quickly are necessary to deal with some of the unique situations in the the world of Baseball.
Position Responsibilities
• Work with the Giants' organization in creating visibility for the program and promoting the program for the baseball operations: Players, coaches, scouts, Athletic Trainer Certified strength and conditioning staff, front office baseball operations staff, and retired players.
• Establish and maintain an affiliate network of providers consistent with the standards of excellence expected by the organization.
• onfidential personal assessments as needed for each employee, their spouse/partner, and any dependent children living in the employee's home. These visits will be to assess and resolve the problems generating the referral.
• The EAP will be responsible for case management of each referral, and will coordinate referrals within the parameters of employee's insurance coverage if long term treatment proves necessary.
• Provide case management and follow-up on all cases referred or requested by any Giants' employee or manager, be they routine referrals, crisis situations or drug testing results. Referrals to the EAP will be voluntary, informal, or mandatory.
• Develop and participate in Spring Training and Conditioning/Mini Camp Programs to both Major and Minor League players, trainers, and coaching staffs.
• Supervise the Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) process in collaboration with MLB's Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for both major and minor league players. Organizing player/doctor appointments and follow up. Keeping the medical department and head athletic trainer updated as needed.
• Conduct orientation sessions for all baseball operations personnel in order to present the employee assistance program as a management tool.
• Participate in Employee Assistance continuing education activities geared towards the development of the profession as well as the maintenance of Clinical Licensure and EAP's credentials.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Requires a Bachelor's/Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, social work, psychology or related field. Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the employee assistance profession. Clinical License and Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) credential required.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
• Exceptional communication/relationship/rapport establishing skills.
• Strong record-keeping, documentation, budget management/gate keeping and case management skills.
• Anticipates and identify complex problems and trends, and analyze information to evaluate options, recommend solutions and/or initiate programs/projects.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information; maintain objectively and respect the balance needed between the organization and the individual.
• Must be able to travel, with overnight stays to support Minor League Affiliate teams, responding to the needs of the athlete or employee and organization.
