The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is seeking a regular full-time Director of Technical Production who will manage all technical requirements and setup for our performance venues. Duties include managing our lighting systems; oversight of production activities, semi and fully staged operas, master classes, and other educational events. The incumbent will also oversee setups for classrooms as needed and support technical needs of organizations who rent our facilities.
The Director of Technical Production will ensure the smooth and safe operation of all SFCM performances and events, both on and off-site; provide friendly and professional production and technical support for performances, operas, workshops, and special events; solicit, track, and fulfill concert and event requests from faculty, staff, students, and renters; and maintain performance facilities and equipment. The incumbent will also recruit, train, and supervise on-call student performance staff and stage crew for approximately 550 events annually; coordinate theatrical lighting maintenance and rentals; assist with recruiting, training, and supervising freelance theatrical lighting technicians when needed; and track the department budget with the Associate Dean for Artistic Operations. The incumbent will perform additional duties as assigned. This position will report to the Associate Dean for Artistic Operations.
The Director of Technical Production must have demonstrated knowledge of stage requirements for a variety of music ensembles; a background in concert and theater production; and the ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects at any one time with superior attention to detail. The incumbent must also have working knowledge of theatrical lighting, particularly Strand and ETC lighting systems. The incumbent must be a clear and effective communicator who can solve issues astutely and efficiently, with the ability to collaborate with a wide variety of individuals in a multicultural environment. S/he will have the capacity to simultaneously coordinate multiple projects and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; train and manage a crew of student workers; and take initiative and implement process improvements in collaboration with the production team. This position will require lifting to 25 lbs. A Bachelor's degree is required, an emphasis in Technical Theater is preferred.
