The Parks & Grounds Associate Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of Parks & Grounds operations at The Rock at La Cantera. Serving as the functional owner of approximately 34 acres of public and event space, this role provides strategic and operational direction to ensure the campus is safe, well-maintained, and presented to SS&E standards.
Reporting to the Associate Director, The Rock at La Cantera, the Parks & Grounds Associate Manager leads staff and vendors, manages departmental budgets, and establishes maintenance strategies and standards in alignment with organizational priorities. This role partners closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support daily operations, events, and long-term capital initiatives, while maintaining compliance with applicable agreements and safety expectations.

What You’ll Do:
• Serves as the functional owner of Parks & Grounds operations for The Rock at La Cantera, accountable for the condition, safety, and presentation of approximately 34 acres of public and event space.
• Establishes department-level maintenance strategies, operational priorities, and seasonal plans in alignment with SS&E standards, brand expectations, and leadership direction.
• Directs and manages Parks & Grounds staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary actions in alignment with SS&E policies.
• Makes hiring, performance, and disciplinary decisions for Parks & Grounds staff in partnership with the Associate Director.
• Owns the Parks & Grounds operating budget within approved financial guidelines, including forecasting and expense management.
• Selects, manages, and evaluates contracted service providers in partnership with the Associate Director to ensure performance, safety, and budget expectations are met.
• Establishes and enforces maintenance standards, inspection protocols, and safety practices, directing execution through staff and vendors.
• Serves as the day-to-day Parks & Grounds lead and delegated point of contact with Bexar County Parks & Grounds Department, partnering with the Associate Director and internal teams to ensure compliance and coordinated campus operations.
• Provides Parks & Grounds leadership and expertise in support of campus initiatives, events, and capital improvement projects
• Other duties as assigned
Who You Are:
• Bachelor’s degree, or 4 years of experience in a supervisory role.
• 2 years’ property and project management experience.
• 2 - 4 years’ basic MEP experience.
• Prior experience managing parks or grounds over 20 acres.
• High level of customer service.
• Ability to read architectural/engineering plans.
• Proficiency within the Microsoft family of programs.
• Experience working with budgets, and file management
• Ability to multi-task, balance, and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience working with hand tools, blowers, pressure washers, and mechanical devices.
• Strong communication and analytical problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
• The ability to remain alert, stand, walk, or sit for up to 12 hours.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work outdoors a majority of the time.
• Ability to lift and carry items over 50 lbs.
