Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
The National Director, Equity & Inclusion supports the Chief Governance and Equity & Inclusion Officer in the strategic development, execution and oversight of the Union's equity and inclusion efforts to advance diversity, reduce bias and eliminate sexual harassment in the workplace. The National Director will manage the Equity & Inclusion team in all advocacy, compliance, education and engagement activities and will work in consultation with senior staff on various initiatives. The National Director will also provide leadership and guidance to staff and member committees on diversity, equity and inclusion related matters and work collaboratively across departments to build frameworks for equity and inclusive excellence.

• Oversee department processes for handling allegations of discrimination and harassment and violations of accessibility requirements.
• Strategic lead in the department for supporting contract negotiations including responsibility for assisting in the formulation of proposals and providing subject matter expertise at Wages & Working Conditions Committee meetings and negotiations.
• Oversee Equity & Inclusion based programming and outreach to members and industry stakeholders; involved in strategic planning and campaign development.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key employer representatives; identify trends and developments within the entertainment industry related to diversity, equity and inclusion and recommend courses of action for positioning the Union effectively.
• Leverage data analytics to improve outcomes and drive change.
• Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

• Must possess an advanced understanding of issues related to diversity, non-discrimination and equal employment opportunity principles and laws.
• Advanced level of management experience and demonstrated leadership skills required to effectively manage and develop team and individual contributors.
• Demonstrated cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence and the ability to engage and build relationships. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally.
• Well-developed group facilitation experience.
• Ability to interpret data and leverage analytics to improve outcomes and drive change.
• Creative problem solver and diplomat. Able to mediate disputes and negotiate with tact under pressure.
• Must possess knowledge of working relationships in entertainment and media (i.e. casting directors, producers, directors, agents, managers, publicists).
• Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members.
• Expert interpersonal skills: high degree of patience and tact.
• Proficient in Google Suite applications and Internet-based systems.
• Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written; consultative skills to gain the respect and trust from staff and leadership alike in building impactful solutions.
• Able to use sound judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality on compensation matters.
• Able to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple assignments and projects; able to thrive in a highly dynamic work environment; able to develop creative solutions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate degree required.
• 10 years of professional experience with diversity, equity & inclusion work or equivalent experience.
• 5 years of senior management experience.
PREFERRED BACKGROUND:
• Advanced degree and/or legal background a plus.
• Knowledge of entertainment industry preferred.
• Experience working in union or entertainment environment is highly desirable.
• Professional relationships in entertainment and/or broadcast journalism field is a plus.
• Background in contract interpretation and enforcement a plus.
