POSITION PURPOSE:
The National Controller directs and oversees all accounting operations of the organization, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of adequate accounting records and comprehensive sets of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance accuracy of reported financial results and ensure that those results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This section provides a general summary of the most significant job duties performed. It does not explain in detail every single task performed.
Manage the Finance and Accounting departments, and provides information (primarily financial in nature) regarding all organizational activities to assist management, board members, and others in making strategic economic decisions for the organizations
In conjunction with the National Director, Finance, and Strategy, the National Controller develops, improves and issues timely monthly financial reports for the CFO and National Board.
Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
Manage and forecast organization's cash flow.
Oversee Accounting and Payroll operations including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving goals and objectives.
Safeguard assets by assuring accurate and timely recording of all transactions.
Implement disciplines of internal audit controls and checks across all departments.
Issue timely and complete financial statements, tax filings, and labor reports (LMR).
Develop, calculates and distrubutes financial and operating metrics.
Manages the accuracy and productivity of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, payroll, and fixed assets records, as well as general and entity accounting.
Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate organizational ventures, special projects, initiatives, programs, capital expenditures, etc.
Manage relationships with outside audit firms, banks, investments management companies, insurance brokers, etc.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
Leverage the strengths of current accounting team members, and assists in the clarification of roles and responsibilities in conjunction with Human Resources.
Develop and implements training programs; in an effort to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization.
Create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious, and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and accounting applications.
Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations procedures, formulating policies, as well as developing and implementing new strategies and processes.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
Experience with Oracle or other ERP software preferred.
Able to work and remain flexible in a very stressful and changing environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined at SAG-AFTRA's sole discretion.
Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members.
Must be available and willing to work extended hours per day or week as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs.
Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business need.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
CPA is required.
A minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in Accounting/ Finance.
Public Accounting experience strongly desired.
Experience in a union environment or member organization a plus.
