Job Opening: Managing Director, Royal Theater
The City of Hogansville is seeking a Managing Director for its historic Royal Theater, which is under rehabilitation now and scheduled to reopen in October 2024. The selected candidate will be the first in this new, full-time position. The Royal Theater was built in 1937 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is a community landmark and at the center of Hogansville's Downtown Master Plan. The Royal will reopen for stage and film with 460 seats - 280 below and 180 in the balcony. The City of Hogansville owns and maintains the theater. The Managing Director will report to the City Manager and work with a Theater Board of Directors.
Managing Director Core Responsibilities and Objectives.
• Develop and implement innovative, engaging, and mission-aligned programming and talent booking.
• Organize and lead development strategies, including fundraising, sponsorships, and capital campaigns.
• Manage contractors associated with lighting, film, audio-visual systems, ticketing, and concessions.
• Manage and oversee financial activities, ensuring fiscal responsibility, budget adherence and financial stability.
• Cultivate diverse collaborations and partnerships within the community, regional arts and cultural organizations, and industry professionals.
• Proactively promote and market the mission of the Royal Theater in the media and community.
• Identify grant opportunities, prepare grant proposals, and administer awards.
• Ensure the stability and proper maintenance of the historic site.
• Work with City Attorney to confirm that theater meets all legal requirements, including film licensing and copyright laws.
Qualifications
• Degree in business, non-profit management, or a related field preferred. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Deep understanding of the theater and performing arts industry, as well as knowledge of digital audio/visual/lighting and film technology.
• Minimum of three years of successful fundraising experience.
• Experience with performance, film, and rental contracts.
• Professional leadership experience in a non-profit setting
• Proven experience in building and stewarding financial resources for sustainable growth.
• Experience with financial software.
• Ability to manage and coordinate multiple initiatives, including collaboration with local government, public/private advisory committees, donors, staff, arts groups, community organizations and regional film and performing arts centers.
• Ability to manage daily operations including but not limited to ticketing, concessions, alcohol sales, film rental, insurance, and housekeeping.
