Rooftop Films is seeking interns for our 2018 Summer Series. Founded in 1997, Rooftop Films is an innovative grassroots non-profit film festival based in Brooklyn, NY. Rooftop has grown to become one of NYC's leading film organizations serving over 48,000 audience members. Our mission is to engage and inspire diverse communities by showing movies in outdoor locations, producing new films, and renting equipment and producing events at low-cost to artists, non-profits and community groups.
A great opportunity for film, arts administration, nonprofit management, and marketing students as well as young filmmakers: learn how a non-profit film festival works and see hundreds of great movies. We welcome students finishing their 1st year of college (or age equivalent) or above and all graduate students.
Internships are not paid, but can be done for school credit. Find out your school's internship or field work credit requirements and we will work with you to accommodate them. Our offices are on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus, near the R, F and G trains in Brooklyn, so please apply only if you will be able to handle that commute.
Applications are due no later than Friday, April 13, 2018.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Festival Marketing Interns will work closely with the Communications Manager and Festival and Programming Coordinator to help plan and manage all aspects of running and promoting a non-profit film festival. Their primary tasks include:
FESTIVAL MARKETING AND PUBLICITY:
+ Research, identify, and liaison with potential community partners for Summer Series events
+ Generate content for, help manage, and analyze Rooftop Films' social media accounts
+ Assist in the production of press materials, including press releases, media alerts, and contact databases
+ Coordinate and implement the distribution of promotional materials across NYC
+ Monitor film/entertainment sites for relevant social media/outreach content
+ Participate in institutional fundraising and development efforts
+ Pre-screen and quality check film programs before events
+ Help maintain film databases
+ Contribute to the Rooftop Films Blog
ON-SITE EVENT COORDINATION:
+ Assist Volunteer Coordinator and Venue Managers in event management:
+ Help set up and break down venues
+ Organize box office and merchandise sales
+ Act as point-of-contact for volunteers
+ Contact, correspond with, and assist in accommodating filmmakers and producers at Summer Series events
+ Pre-show prep
+ Generate social media content live from events
+ Occasional event photography
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Candidates must be able to receive college or university credit to participate in this internship.
+ Candidates must have experience with:
+ Microsoft Office
+ Google Suites
+ Managing social media accounts (particularly Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
+ Bonus points for candidates with experience using:
+ Airtable
+ Adobe InDesign
+ Adobe Photoshop
+ Video editing software, such as Final Cut
+ Digital photography
Festival Marketing Internship candidates would be expected to average two days a week in the office and one evening show per week, but generally the more time you can commit the better.
Start Date: Late May/Early June 2018
