Rolling Stone is seeking a Vice President of Commerce to grow its digital retail. The VP will be responsible for turning its successful e-commerce channel, RS Recommends, into a leading platform for inspiration and advice on what to buy. That means the VP will oversee e-commerce strategy; maintain and develop relationships with retail partners; develop and implement ideas to radically expand the RS Recommends business; work with editors and writers on content; make sure best practices are employed across the team.
The Vice President will help license the RS Recommends brand to retailers, and will serve as a primary point of contact for both senior clients and top editors.
The Vice President of Commerce will report to the Editor-in-Chief and will oversee a team of in-house writers, editors, and freelancers. You’ll also be responsible for publishing daily shoppable listicles, deal posts, and reviews, spanning everything from audio to electronics to fashion to fitness to smart home tech. The goal is to turn RS Recommends from a single channel to a standalone e-commerce site.
Responsibilities:
• Lead e-commerce, and new business development for RS Recommends
• Oversee a team of writers, editors, and freelancers
• Manage strategic partnerships
• Develop market opportunity analysis, contribute to market POV, and monitor market trends to identify growth opportunities
• Manage an e-commerce P&L with accountability for budgets and driving web KPIs.
Requirements:
• 7 years of digital commerce experience
• A background in shopper marketing and in-depth knowledge of the retail commerce landscape is critical
• Strong command of commerce platforms, syndicated research tools, and reporting resources such as Amazon, Walmart Media Group, and Roundel
• Experience working with affiliate networks and link-tracking platforms is a must
• Deep relationships in the commerce industry, including with publishers, tech platforms, and brand teams
• 5 years of people managing experience, overseeing five or more reports in editorial
• Excellent negotiation skills and understanding of how to add incremental value and increase the revenue stream
• Strong communication and writing skills—you’re poised, precise, and above all, kind when engaging with others
• Able to package, merchandise, and sell concepts and new opportunities
• Strategic thinking and able to see the bigger picture
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team setting
• Develop and drive transactional messaging, trigger campaigns and large-scale marketing efforts.
• Demonstrated understanding of web design/development concepts and processes, and industry best practices for Ee-Ccommerce.
• Demonstrated ability to drive results through cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills across all levels in an organization.
• Multi-channel retail experience preferred.
Typical wage range: $140k - $160k Bonus. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
