Join our fun, fast-paced, talented team expanding your career as a Staff Writer in our News Department. Expertise in music — especially hip-hop, Latin, and pop — is strongly preferred as is a willingness to track down sources, dig through public records, and follow digital trails for stories. The ideal candidate should have at least two years of writing and reporting experience, and be able to write sensitively and smartly on stories of interest to diverse communities. This candidate must also be able to turn out stories quickly, accurately, and with style on pop culture, true crime, politics, and more. This job is fast-paced, and this reporter will be responsible for multiple stories per day, though there will be ample opportunities for longer projects.

Responsibilities:

• Report and write news stories on music, entertainment, crime, politics, and more
• Advance the stories of the day, unearthing new details, fresh angles, and unreported information
• Brainstorm ideas with other reporters and editors

Requirements:
• 3 years of journalism experience
• Proven ability to write crisply and with style on deadline
• Strong news judgment
• Fluency in digital newsgathering tools and/or public records searches
• The ability to juggle several stories and projects at the same time and keep a cool head under pressure
• Experience with analytics, and social media management tools.
• Basic photo/graphic/video editing skills are a plus.
