Position Purpose
We are seeking a hardworking business and legal affairs executive for our dynamic company. This position will be responsible for the full range of legal work for the acquisition, production and distribution of movies and television projects to include drafting, negotiating and advising on all agreements for River Road throughout all stages and across all platforms, including development, production, sales, distribution, financing and licensing, as well as general in-house corporate and legal matters. The successful candidate will be a diligent and dedicated negotiator, drafter and advisor, providing concise, practical legal and business affairs advice under tight deadlines.
Key Accountabilities
• Carrying out business and legal affairs responsibilities in connection with company's production of motion pictures and television content worldwide;
• Handling all aspects of licensing matters, including drafting documents, negotiating all phases of transactions from term sheet/deal terms to long form, consulting on the management and administration of active agreements and providing guidance on deal structure and strategy;
• Drafting, negotiating, documenting and managing a wide variety of agreements in connection with the development, production, sales, distribution, financing and licensing of our content;
• Overseeing and training Contract Administrator concerning contract analysis, redrafting agreements, keeping current worldwide distribution rights management system, tracking deadlines, etc.;
• Interfacing/coordinating directly with sales agents and distributors in connection with distribution offers, deals, contractual obligations, marketing, approvals, etc.
• Coordinating and supervising outside counsel on a variety of work; and
• Other departmental work as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Experience drafting and negotiating contracts for development, production, finance, and sales & distribution deals;
• Reliably execute multiple, high priority projects concurrently and proactively. Problem solve under tight timeframes with a keen attention to detail and time management;
• Display and maintain a professional, positive demeanor with excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills;
• Exceptional time management and prioritization;
• Excellent attention to detail on competing priorities and ability to maintain efficiency and accuracy while working under pressure;
• Excellent written and verbal communication, superb listening skills, negotiation and analytical (strategic and solution oriented) proficiency while succinctly conveying complex business and legal concepts;
• Demonstrated track record of holding to the highest degree of honesty and integrity;
• Strong relationships within the entertainment industry preferred; and
• Excellent drafting skills are a must.
Education and Experience (minimum qualifications)
• 6+ years of transferable professional legal and/or business affairs experience in film production (law firm and/or major studio experience preferred)
• JD required and CA State Bar Certification preferred
