River Road Entertainment is a leading filmmaker-driven production company, making high quality and impactful content that inspires, informs, provokes and entertains.
We are seeking a hardworking business and legal affairs executive to join our fast-paced team. This position will be responsible for the full range of legal work for the development/acquisition, financing, production, post-production and distribution of films and television projects to include drafting, negotiating and advising on all agreements for River Road throughout all stages and across all platforms as well as general in-house corporate and legal matters. The successful candidate will be a diligent and dedicated drafter, negotiator and advisor, providing concise, practical legal and business affairs advice under tight deadlines. The role will have a high level of responsibility.
Key Accountabilities
• Carry out business and legal affairs responsibilities in connection with Company's production of motion pictures and television content worldwide;
• Draft, negotiate, document and manage a wide variety of agreements relating to development, production, post-production, sales, distribution, financing and licensing of our content;
• Provide legal advice and review content related issues, manage IP rights and clearances;
• Draft and maintain form agreements and analyze and summarize various agreement terms;
• Oversee/manage Contract Admin on contract responsibilities including research, redlining, maintaining distribution rights management system, tracking deadlines, etc.);
• Interface/coordinate directly with sales agents and distributors in connection with distribution offers, deals, contractual obligations, marketing, approvals and more;
• Provide legal advice, coordinate/supervise outside counsel on a variety of work; and
• Other departmental projects as directed.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills and experience drafting production related deals;
• Ideal candidate must be able to work independently, handling a high volume of legal matters;
• Reliably execute multiple projects concurrently and proactively. Problem solve under tight timeframes;
• Excellent attention to detail on competing priorities and ability to maintain efficiency and accuracy while working under pressure;
• Self-motivated and well organized with the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment;
• Maintain a professional, positive demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills;
• Excellent, concise written and verbal communication, superb listening skills, and analytical (strategic and solution oriented) proficiency while succinctly conveying complex business and legal concepts;
• Demonstrated track record of holding to the highest degree of honesty and integrity; and
• Strong relationships within the entertainment industry preferred
Education & Experience
• 5-10 years of transferable professional legal and/or business affairs experience in film production (law firm and/or major studio experience preferred)
• JD required and CA State Bar Certification preferred
Work Environment
While it is preferred that the employee spend some time in the office, we are open to flexible arrangements. Can be discussed further.
