Role Overview
We're seeking a Social Media Manager or Boutique Social Media Agency to lead the digital voice and community-building strategy for our most recent independent film release and national tour. We're looking for someone who already lives and breathes culture online-who knows what hits, what converts, and what builds loyalty over time. This is not a corporate content job. This is for someone who's already running their own creative world on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, or YouTube-someone with the instincts of a publisher, the voice of a creator, and the clarity of a strategist. You'll partner with our internal team, community producer, and event organizers to turn screenings and partnerships into social moments that move culture, not just content.
Key Responsibilities
Own and Run Social Channels: Manage all social accounts for the film and/or distributor across Instagram, TikTok, Threads, X, YouTube, etc.-from content calendars and copywriting to posting and community management.
Audience Growth & Community Building: Use storytelling, engagement tactics, and platform-native formats to grow and sustain a loyal digital audience that follows the film's journey and brand ethos.
Content Production & Coordination: Create or commission short-form video, reels, memes, graphics, behind-the-scenes content, and live coverage of screenings, panels, and events.
Cultural Fluency: Stay tapped into relevant conversations across film, art, culture, and Black/queer/independent media-bringing that awareness into the content strategy.
Influencer & Creator Collaboration: Partner with the Community Producer to seed content, co-create with other digital voices, and amplify cross-platform conversations.
Analytics & Optimization: Monitor engagement and performance, and evolve strategies in real time to match what's resonating most with audiences.
Ideal Qualifications
You or your team run a successful cultural or niche social brand (e.g., @itscolorcoded, @nappyheadclub, @blackarchives.co, etc.)
3-6 years of experience in social-first content creation or digital storytelling
Deep comfort across platforms-especially Instagram and TikTok-and a track record of building audiences organically
A creative eye for visual storytelling and voice that's native to each platform
Ability to manage calendars, deadlines, approvals, and rapid turnarounds for live events and moments
Experience creating for or within independent film, music, or culture a strong plus
Work Structure & Location
Location: Remote-friendly with preferred presence in LA/NY for tour coverage
Term: Contract through the end of the campaign (est. 4-5 months)
Travel: Potential travel for tour stops or onsite content capture
Salary/Benefits
$80,000.00
