Overview:
Scherloum, in collaboration with The Brashear Association, Inc., is working on an event-based temporary public art project that addresses the issue of food insecurity in eleven neighborhoods of South Pittsburgh. This project is one of four projects of the Public Art and Communities Program, an initiative between the Office for Public Art and Neighborhood Allies, in collaboration with the Borough of Millvale.
The public art project aims to address the stigma around food insecurity through a community meal series crafted to improve access to services, such as Brashear's food pantry; to create community; and lift up alternatives to the systems that are leaving people hungry. An experimental interactive theater performance, the work creates awareness that anything can change suddenly for any of us, and being food insecure is not a personal failure, but a situation that has systemic causes and solutions.
