POPSUGAR is looking for a full-time attorney to join the in-house legal team to provide legal and business affairs support to its media and entertainment business groups. A successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the evolving needs of a fast-paced and high growth business, bringing pragmatic solutions, best practices, and strategies for managing legal risks. We are looking for a talented attorney with initiative and drive who can effectively partner with business teams and handle a high volume of varied and complex legal work. This position is based in POPSUGAR's San Francisco or Los Angeles/ Culver City office.
Responsibilities
• Provide day-to-day business and legal affairs expertise for POPSUGAR's video production units developing and creating diverse digital content, including editorial, branded and immersive native videos, and long-form productions for OTT, film, and television.
• Structure, negotiate, and draft development, production and distribution-related deals, talent and crew agreements; appearance, materials, and location releases; waivers; deal memos; partnership deals, vendor, and services agreements; consulting agreements; music and other content licenses; network deals; promotion agreements; and option agreements.
• Advise business teams on production-related legal matters, including rights and clearance issues; insurance terms; assess risks associated with evolving content distribution models and copyright issues.
• Support the legal team with other commercial/transactional and corporate matters and special initiatives, including compliance, process improvement, template development, trainings for business teams and use of technologies to increase efficiencies.
Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal and business affairs experience, including prior entertainment or production experience; in-house experience a plus.
• Law degree from top-tier law school with strong academic performance; admitted to practice and active member of a state bar, preferably California.
• Knowledge of entertainment industry and familiarity with industry customs and practices; knowledge of intellectual property, entertainment and media law.
• Solid background negotiating a wide range of entertainment and new media agreements.
• Comprehensive knowledge of digital, television and/or film industries, including production clearance experience.
• Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor communication style to diverse audiences.
Skills and Experience

• a self-starter proficient in structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts;
• self-reliant, excellent project manager with strong organizational skills and high attention to details;
• able to build strong internal client relationships and effectively advise senior executives;
• able to make sound legal decisions and execute accurately under tight deadlines and to evaluate risks in light of business concerns;
• an efficient and creative problem-solver who is mindful of business objectives and communication styles; and
• a collaborator who adopts a team-oriented approach to projects when suitable, and maintains an energetic and positive attitude.
