Penske Media Corporation is continuing to expand its Payroll team with the addition of a Payroll Manager position based in Los Angeles. Reporting to the Senior Director, Payroll, this is an exciting leadership role as part of a well-established payroll team. The Payroll Manager will be a strategic partner to the organization focused on streamlining the current processes and supporting our fast-growing business. This role will oversee the payroll department and implement effective and efficient payroll processes to support high-volume payroll processing. Key areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
• Lead the payroll functions with a team of 4 payroll professionals located in Los Angeles.
• Evaluate and recommend continuous improvement initiatives to the payroll and billing processes by analyzing payroll and shared service trends.
• Responsible for monitoring compliance issues that impact payroll; recommend and implement changes ensuring pay practices comply with state and federal wage and hour laws.
• Ensure timely and accurate communication of changes to payroll policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Mentor, develop, hire and train staff.
• Manage internal/external payroll audits.
• Drive, review and audit work performed by our function, including auditing payroll data, ensuring accurate wages, tax withholdings, deductions, and garnishments and process quarterly tax adjustments, end-of-year payroll tax and reporting compliance.
• Drive special projects, including process documentation and improvements, system updates, integrations, upgrades or implementations, including reimplementing US payroll.
• Develop, drive and report on key metrics for the function.
• Support management on ad hoc and growth-oriented projects such as scalability initiatives and acquisitions.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 8 years of payroll experience including at least 4 years managing the process and department for a multi-state organization.
• Experience with UltiPro preferred.
• Ability to understand the business operations from a strategic and tactical perspective.
• Proven knowledge of payroll procedures, federal and state laws.
• Able to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to excel in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
• Resourceful, innovative, with a can-do attitude and attention to detail
Typical wage range: $90k - $110k. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
