IndieWire: Executive Editor, TV
IndieWire is hiring an Executive Editor who will guide our daily TV coverage and shape how TV contributes to the publication's overarching vision and voice. IndieWire TV coverage is a mix of industry- and consumer-facing news reporting, reviews, enterprise storytelling, and a significant amount of Emmys FYC content - both editorial and sponsored. Our ideal candidate should have deep relationships with top representatives in the TV business (including showrunners, producers, and senior executives) as well as a sixth sense for what makes a great TV story. This position can be based in our West Los Angeles headquarters or in our Midtown Manhattan offices.
Strong reporting and editing skills are essential, as is a talent for sharing them with a team of 5-7 direct reports.?You will manage the TV staff and develop story ideas, move quickly on fast-breaking issues, advise them on reporting strategies, and elevate their drafts. -
Working closely with the Editor in Chief, the executive editor will play a critical role in determining how to take our TV coverage and reporting in powerful new directions. Our values include consumer-facing stories with a business edge and business coverage that creates context and moves beyond the headline. Bring us the untold stories, snappy headlines, and fresh approaches that dodge the junket doldrums. Editing, strategy, and management are the priority, but we welcome your own reporting and writing.
You should have at least seven years' experience in journalism as a writer and editor, with a record of breaking news, enterprise coverage, investigative reporting, or feature writing. The desire to lead is essential. Have a clear vision for identifying ideas that can make a tangible impact and a deep understanding of how to craft stories to reach a wide audience. We want your thoughts about how IndieWire's TV coverage should look, with ideas for specific angles and the big-picture direction of the team. -
