The Director Rights and Permission is accountable for conducting all activities in order to protect the copyrighted material for Playboy's publications and ensuring that secondary uses of material fall within established company policies and procedures. This position interacts within the Publishing, Entertainment, New Media divisions and Legal internally and with contributors, agents and publishers externally.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
. Oversee documents obtained by internal content producers are consistent with required PB purchase terms & conditions.
. Drive communications with external content producers in an effort to resolve rights issues and steer the rights towards acceptable terms & conditions required.
. Liaise with legal and amend endorsement codes and contracts for photo/editorial/ art/cartoon when necessary to accommodate new uses of Playboy content.
. Direct the record-keeping process to ensure obligations are met as required by the Child Protection Act.
. Develop processes for compiling and disseminating rights information.
. Monitor keying of data into assorted MARIS (Media Asset Rights information Systems) databases for magazine, legal, calendars & legacy.
. Oversee the published photo rights database by researching and recording rights information for photography in upcoming issues of Playboy Magazine.
. Ingest celebrity photo shoots to insure accuracy of metadata in effort to deter potential misuse in order to offset violation of contractual commitment.
. Govern internal submissions for reproduction of magazine & legacy content (editorial/photo/art/cartoons) from assorted Playboy publication in various media and external submissions for reproduction of copyrighted material in various media including print, television, films and online.
. Monitor the timely and accurate delivery to the Legal Department any documentation evidencing Playboy's ownership to material that appears in its publications for copyright infringement cases.
. Perform other special projects as assigned (i.e. purchase rights necessary to reproduce articles where rights have reverted to an author/estate for anthology/compilation trade books published by Playboy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
. 5 plus years Rights & Permissions required.
. 5 plus years Leadership experience.
. Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
. Bachelor's Degree required.
