Assistant General Counsel (In House)
PIXOMONDO is a forward-thinking, artist-driven company with an established global network of facilities in both Europe and North America. Our mission is to develop and produce stunning visual effects and innovative entertainment experiences for our clients.
We are in the process of expanding our team and are looking for like-minded professionals who are excited to get in on the ground floor and explore new terrain as we establish a positive culture within the VFX community. Our PXO team continues to expand and explore the frontiers of tech in filmmaking, and we're looking for you!
Responsibilities:
• Draft and negotiate contracts, such as client service agreements, vendor agreements, NDA's, and rental agreements
• Advise on legal matters including contracts, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance.
• Advise the various executives and in-house producers on contract status, legal risks and business terms of various deals.
• Work alongside employees in Finance, IT, Marketing, Production, and Human Resources as an internal resource.
• Research unique legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.
• Draft standard terms and conditions for template agreements.
• Protect intellectual property rights, including trademarks and copyrights.
• Perform pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
• Review advertising and marketing materials to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
• Develop solutions to complex legal questions.
• Stay up to date with legislative changes that may affect the company and the entertainment industry; identify applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.
• Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Member of the Ontario Bar in good standing. California or New York Bar would be nice to have.
• License to practice law in Canada.
• 5 years' related experience, preferably in entertainment or previous experience as a Producer.
• Excellent knowledge of entertainment law, including contract law, intellectual property law, and industry regulations.
• Ability to exercise excellent judgment while adhering to the highest ethical and professional standards; unquestioned discretion in maintaining confidentiality.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills; ability to analyze and translate complex legal documents for a lay audience.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner and remain highly responsive to leadership and client inquiries
• Discretion and exceptional judgment in dealing with sensitive and confidential situations
