Full Time Job
The Technical Director will support the Creative Services department by producing assets for Marketing (in-theater and outdoor material such as posters, standees, billboards, bus shelters, etc.) The Creative Services team produces film related assets in partnership with feature Production, Publicity, Promotions, and Consumer Products Divisions, as well as multiple departments within Disney.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Create new shots in the CS prod, perform camera layout work, run cloth and hair simulation tasks when needed, create and fine-tune lighting, recreate FX from production shots, render high-resolution images (adjust displacement as needed), composite in Nuke, paint work in Photoshop
• Perform miscellaneous TD tasks for print, online, advertising, promotions, and other corporate marketing initiatives
• Manage tools version settings as simultaneous projects necessitate moving from one film unit environment to another during normal work
• Render and adjust film frames using Katana, as well as retouch/paint in Photoshop
• Present imagery in reviews with production leads and directors and liaise with Disney partners
• Work with production departments as needed (modeling, layout, shading, simulation, animation, FX) to finesse assets for shot setup and lighting adjustments
• Work with Rendering to optimize shot work
• Deliver final images for feature films, often prior to the completion of the production, managing multiple projects simultaneously
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
• Two to three years of technical director experience; recent college graduates with exceptional skills may be considered
• Strong technical skills in the tools used for CG film production; layout, 3D lighting, rendering, compositing, simulation, FX, and ability to debug technical issues
• Fluency with Linux operating system
• Experience with Global Illumination and physically accurate lighting
• Working knowledge of Katana (preferred) or another 3D lighting software
• Working knowledge of Nuke (preferred) or another node-base compositing software
• Excellent artistic eye for color, composition, layout, and lighting
• Strong knowledge of Macintosh platform
• Mid-level to advanced Photoshop skills
• Must possess ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple projects, and produce high-quality work under tight deadlines
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
• Adept at working both independently and collaboratively
• Open to direction and adaptable to change
