Full Time Unpaid Internship
A Technical Director internship consists of real-world work assisting in the production of a feature film. Our interns work alongside our Technical Directors (TDs) and contribute as full members of the technical team. We are looking for students who possess strong technical skills and a passion for creating high-end visual imagery in support of the story telling process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and implement appearance of the texture, color, and material properties for objects
• Develop shaders using a wide range of techniques and resources, including 2D/ 3D texture painting, procedural signals, reusing and modifying existing shading functions, and/or creating original algorithmic work
• Projects may also include technical development such as implementing procedurals in the RenderMan shading language, writing RenderMan DSOs and other graphics functionality, and optimizing existing pipelines and assets
• May be asked to paint textures in programs like PhotoShop or Mari
• Work may be expressed as drawings, paintings, photographic and motion picture references and/or actual reference objects or locations. Work closely with Production Designer and Director to iterate on the desired look
• Maintain asset stability for downstream departments
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Working towards a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Digital Art or a related field
• Programming experience in C/C and/or a scripting language such as Python
• A strong sense of aesthetic demonstrating an understanding of physical motion, weight, - balance, lighting, texture, and form
• Ability to follow art direction but also demonstrate initiative
• Experience using 3D software packages such as Houdini, Maya, Katana, RenderMan, etc.
• Experience in Unix/Linux systems
ELIGIBILITY:
• Working towards a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Digital Art or a related field; recent grads who are within one year of graduation are also eligible to apply
• Must be able to demonstrate a sense of aesthetic via an online demo reel
• Must be available to work full-time Mon - Fri for 12-weeks between June 2019 – August 2019
