Full Time Unpaid Internship
A Technical Director internship consists of real-world work assisting in the production of a feature film. Our interns work alongside our Technical Directors and contribute as full members of the technical team. We are looking for students who possess many of the skills of our technical directors and are interested in expanding their knowledge of the field.?
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Write software to improve workflow and provide film-specific functionality for other departments including animation and lighting
• Develop and implement appearance of the texture, color, and material properties of objects
• Develop shaders using a wide range of techniques and resources, including 2D / 3D texture painting, procedural signals, reuse and modification of existing shading functions, and the creation of original algorithmic work
• Projects may also include technical development such as implementing procedurals in the Renderman shading language, writing Renderman DSOs and other graphics functionality, and optimizing existing pipelines and assets
• May be asked to paint textures in programs like Adobe Photoshop or The Foundry's Mari
• Work may be expressed as drawings, paintings, photographics and motion picture references and/or actual reference objects or location. Works closely with production designers and directors to iterates on the desired look
• Maintains asset stability for downstream departments
QUALIFICATIONS:
If you are interested in a Technical Director Internship, you must be currently in college working towards your Bachelor's, Master's or PhD Degree and returning to school following your internship at Pixar.
Our Technical Director interns generally have some or all of the following areas of experience:
• Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Computer Science or a related field, preferably with a focus in Computer Graphics
• Programming experience in C or C , or a scripting language (Python)
• An art aesthetic that demonstrates a thorough understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, lighting, texture and form
• Experience using high-end 3D graphic packages, such as Maya, or Houdini
• Linux or Unix Operating System experience
TERM: Summer 2017 (June - August)
