Mercury Basketball Communications Manager

The Phoenix Mercury are seeking candidates for a Basketball Communications Manager. This individual will assist in the management of all day-to-day team communications and other Public Relations, Community Relations and Marketing duties as assigned.

What the Mercury Basketball Communications Manager will do:
• Serve as main contact for international, national and local media, both at home and on the road, and assist in the facilitation of all media interviews
• Manage the day-to-day communications of the Mercury, including publications and written materials
• Oversee the publication of all media guides (preseason, regular season, postseason) and game notes to include editing and compiling all statistics
• Assist in the research and production of press releases
• Manage all media hospitality on game nights, including game-night press room accommodations and media seating
• Manage all credentials, season and single-game
• Administrative duties, including team travel lists and team tickets
• Execute a year-round communications plan that provides positive media coverage of players, coaches, management, and entire organization, incorporating team’s messaging into various communications tactics
• Monitor the media conversation surrounding Phoenix Mercury team and players
• Generate story ideas involving team personnel and proactively pitch to media members
• Work with Digital/Social/Content teams to help create content opportunities for the team’s digital/social channels; Assist in facilitating/coordinating internal requests
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with media members
• Manage the team’s game-night media relations staff

What we need from the Mercury Basketball Communications Manager:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products
• Ability to handle fast-paced, sometimes high-stress environment
• Dependable and detail oriented
• Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and work independently with limited supervision

Education and Experience:

• Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications or related fields such as Public Relation and Marketing.
• Previous writing experience
• Experience in sports a plus

What you can expect as the Mercury Basketball Communications Manager
• Flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings, some holidays and some overtime to meet business needs
• Must be able to attend all Mercury home games
• Travel during the Mercury season
