Job Summary:
As a Lighting Engineer, you will support the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, and other events at Footprint Center. This role includes designing, executing, and maintaining the arena's theatrical lighting system, working alongside the Live Presentation & Arena Technology teams to deliver engaging lighting programs for various events.
What You Will Do:
• Operate the lighting console for Suns & Mercury games and special events
• Support around 60 basketball games and over 100 special events annually, ensuring operational excellence and work-life balance
• Work with management to balance event support and personal time
• Collaborate with Arena Technology teams to design lighting programs using Grand MA 3, 60 fixtures, and the Musco arena lighting system
• Design and program lighting show files, maintain lighting equipment, and schedule routine maintenance on fixtures, follow spots, and motors
• Ensure proper upkeep of lighting fixtures and equipment
• Manage vendor relationships for inspections and maintenance
• Assist with the upkeep of the catwalk and ensure a clean and safe workspace
• Join the rotation for supporting concerts and other events as needed
What We Need From You:
• Proven experience with Grand MA 3 console and knowledge of DMX signal flow
• Understanding of electrical and rigging systems, ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance
• Experience managing vendor relationships and working in live event environments
• Basic IT networking knowledge, familiarity with AutoCAD
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with team members
• Time management, attention to detail, and adaptability in fast-paced environments
Experience/Education Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED required, college degree preferred
• At least 3 years of touring or live event experience
• Certification or proof of training on Grand MA systems required
• Rigging and electrical safety training preferred
Work Environment:
This is a mostly indoor role with occasional exposure to weather (<5%). The position may require sitting for extended periods and the ability to move throughout the arena.
