We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Controller to manage the accounting and finance process for multiple entities, including the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, Valley Suns, and PHX Arena. This role will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department in addition to ensuring compliance with all external regulatory requirements.
What You Will Do:
• Oversee daily operations of the finance and accounting department
• Manage the preparation and issuance of all financial reports, including external GAAP financial statements and league (NBA and WNBA) reports
• Assist in the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements
• Coordinate with department managers to develop fiscal budgets and policies
• Establish short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
• Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the company's goals and objectives, while maintaining proper internal controls
• Coordinate financial and league audits; provide recommendations for procedural improvements
• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff
• Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
• Perform monthly and fiscal year end accounting close outs
• Provide ad hoc reports when requested
What We Need From Our Controller:
• Advanced skills with Excel and Microsoft Office applications
• Great Plains experience a plus
• Skill in leading a small team and developing others
• Proven track record of the ability to handle multiple tasks at once
Experience/ Education Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Preference may be given to candidates with an advanced degree.
• 5 years of experience in public accounting or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of experience supervising direct reports

• This position works mainly indoors, removed from extreme weather; exposure to weather is <5%

• Must be able to carry on a conversation both on the phone and in-person.
