Full Time Job
The Assistant General Manager primarily aids the General Manager in all decision-making processes, specifically related to the proper compliance and execution of CBA-related matters, such as salary cap and strategic financial roster planning. The Assistant General Manager is responsible for coordinating the scouting process and assisting in any other activity needed in the construction and development of the team.
What You Will Do:
• Demonstrate a full understanding of the CBA, specifically salary-cap related matters, and apply such understandings to strategic cap management
• Serve as the point person for negotiations with external parties related to the roster-building (i.e. trades, draft workouts, agent relations, etc.)
• Negotiate player contracts and trade agreements, execute the strategy/talking points and draft legal correspondence pertaining to such matters
• Develop creative trade ideas and free agents concepts/provisions
• Serve as the point person for league-related matters involving the CBA
• Update team salary cap documents (salaries, contract details, draft picks, trade restrictions, free agency status); maintain contract-related player charts and lists
• Attend weekly senior executive meetings; coordinate initiatives with the Business Operations staff
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance
What We Need From Our AGM:
• Requires a strong understanding of the WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and contract law
• Knowledge of the WNBA, NCAA, and international players and teams
• Requires strong negotiating and communication skills
• Must demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
• Must be very detail-oriented, intuitive, a self-starter, and work with minimal supervision
• Demonstrate the ability to problem solve and prioritize based on organizational experience
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
• Must be able to appropriately prioritize workload, as well as demonstrate flexibility and poise when responding to unanticipated events
• Constructively engages with others who have different views
• Facilitates collaboration and teamwork among people who depend on each other to succeed
• Engages in meaningful and candid development-focused conversation that helps people know where they stand against expectations and opportunities
• Requires strong MS Office with an emphasis on PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Education and Experience:
• Previous experience in a CBA-affiliated/management or similar role
• Bachelor’s degree
• Previous work experience with a basketball team and/or sports agency
• Experience in scouting and evaluating college and WNBA players
