Suns Legacy Partners includes several companies and many different departments that support the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Footprint Center.
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Applied Sports Scientist with the Phoenix Suns Basketball Operations Department. As a Applied Sports Scientist you will play a critical role in the setup, operation, and analysis of sports-related technology, data collection and research. You will primarily focus on player macro and micro performance, leveraging your expertise to enhance performance, optimize training strategies, and contribute to the overall success of our teams.

What Will You Do:
• Collaborate with the Health & Performance Team and Sport Science practice to identify technological requirements for data collection and analysis.
• Set up and operate sports technology equipment, including motion capture systems, tracking systems, physiological monitoring devices, and other relevant tools.
• Ensure the accurate and efficient functioning of technology during training sessions, practices, and games.
• Develop and implement data collection protocols and procedures to capture relevant performance metrics and physiological parameters.
• Collect data during training sessions, practices, and games using appropriate tech and equipment.
• Ensure data quality and accuracy, addressing any technical issues that may arise.
• In partnership with the Sports Science Strategy group, assess comprehensive research and literature reviews in the field of sports science, specifically focusing on team sports.
• Analyze collected data to identify trends, patterns, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Collaborate with the Health & Performance team to translate data insights into actionable recommendations for training strategies, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
• Monitor and assess athlete performance using objective measures derived from data analysis.
• Identify areas for improvement and contribute to the development of personalized training programs and interventions.
• Regularly communicate findings and progress to coaches, athletes, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Work closely with medical professionals, strength and conditioning coaches, and other support staff to integrate sports science principles into overall athlete development strategies.
• Provide ongoing support and guidance to staff and athletes on the effective use of technology and data-driven insights.
What We Need From Our Applied Scientist:
• A master's or doctoral degree in sports science, exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years post-study experience working in a sports science role, with a focus on professional or collegiate team sports.
• Strong knowledge of sports technology, data collection methods, and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in using sports-specific software and tools for data analysis (e.g., sports performance analysis software, statistical packages, databases).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication, and presentation, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders (athletes, coaches, etc.) through visual representations.
• A passion for sports and a deep understanding of the physical and physiological demands of team sports.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic sports environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up to date with advancements in sports technology and strategy.
Experience/ Education Requirements:
• A master's or doctoral degree in sports science, exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field.
