The Grounds Department of the Philadelphia Phillies is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Assistant Groundskeeper. This individual's primary responsibility will be to assist in management of the daily operations within the grounds department at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is an entry-level (non-management) position.
Qualified applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Hold a two or four-year college degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, Plant Science or related field.
• Have a minimum of three years experience working in professional baseball. Preference shall be given to individuals who have a minimum of two years experience as either a Head or Assistant Groundskeeper.
• Have a minimum of two years experience maintaining a sand-based, high performance baseball diamond. Preference shall be given to individuals who have experience maintaining high-quality bluegrass turf in the transition zone, preferably in the mid-Atlantic or Midwest regions.
• Have exceptional organizational abilities and the ability to work unsupervised.
• Individual should have experience operating and maintaining irrigation systems. Experience operating a computerized central control irrigation system is preferred but not required.
• Have an extensive knowledge of and experience performing mound, plate and infield preparation, construction and care.
• Have a willingness to work long hours and a variable schedule including weekends and holidays, especially during the MLB season.
• Be physically capable of safely operating light to medium machinery including utility vehicles, tractors, skid steers and mowers, be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted, be able to work extended periods of time in high heat and humidity, and have no restrictions to work with any plant materials, soils or pesticides/chemicals commonly used in landscape operations.
• Experience handling and applying pesticides and fungicides. Have the ability to take and pass the Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators core test as well as category 7 within three months of starting employment with The Phillies.
• Have a thorough knowledge of applicable State & Federal pesticide regulations/laws.
