Manager, Content and Rights Management (Hybrid)
Position Title: Manager, Content and Rights Management (Hybrid)
Department: Content and Rights Management
Location: Arlington, VA (preferred) or Boston, MA
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Supervisor: Sr. Director, Content and Rights Management
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager, Content and Rights Management interprets content acquisition and sales agreements to capture rights and terms into PBSd's rights management system, Rightsline. The Manager ensures amendments that renew or expand rights are executed in a timely manner. The Manager generates and reviews reports outlining available rights and windows, while providing exceptional customer service and meeting deadlines based on business needs. This person leads PBSd's renewals and expirations processes across all titles, ensuring rights are expired or extended prior to each term end date.
Responsibilities:
Renewals and Expirations
• Independently handle renewals and expirations including analyzing sales history reporting, making recommendations, negotiating rights extensions, providing status updates to internal stakeholders, drafting amendments, and processing for execution via DocuSign.
• Make recommendations to senior management about financial commitments by pulling comps and analyzing ROI through pro formas.
• Capture business terms for offers, agreements, and amendments using approved templates. Interfacing with the Legal team, as needed, on language drafting and for other paperwork review (i.e. assignment letters, etc).
• Cultivate and maintain PBSd's relationships with the producer, distributor, and member station community by providing excellent customer service including responding to inquiries and through renewals conversations.
International and Digital Licensing
• Support Sales teams' efforts to understand rights and run availability reports.
• Use strong critical thinking to verify that any gaps or conflicts related to rights, terms, territory, or exclusivity in Rightsline are communicated to sales teams as they negotiate terms with external partners.
• Enter executed international and digital deals in Rightsline coordinating any rights-related queries between the Sales and Legal teams.
Rightsline / Systems
• Analyze contracts and enter relevant contract terms in Rightsline in accordance with established business processes and timelines for incoming programs and outgoing sales.
• Run regular data audits and reports in support of high data integrity. Collaborate with other departments in support of their data cleanup efforts.
• Department liaison to the Rightsline Customer Success team, including submitting tickets for enhancements to the Rightsline system, attending demonstrations, and troubleshooting issues with the software.
• Provide Rightsline training to users including avails reporting and advanced searches.
Other / Administrative
• Track and follow up on expected rights paperwork of assigned producing partners.
• Point of contact for content ID and Youtube anti-piracy efforts and processes.
• Continually update departmental process documentation with latest best practices.
• Other duties as assigned.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• 8+ years relevant work experience in media or entertainment
• Rights management, contract management, or operations experience
• Familiarity with television or film industries, including the home entertainment and Video on Demand (VOD) markets
• Experience working with, managing and maintaining databases
• Experience running and analyzing reports including large data sets
• Experience with Rightsline or other rights management systems and workflows strongly preferred
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
SKILLS:
• Advanced level Word and Excel skills
• Understanding of rights, clearances and licensing
• Strong editing, proofreading, and attention-to-detail skills
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and move multiple projects forward simultaneously
• Ability to solve problems collaboratively and independently
