Vice President, Podcast Editorial (News & Docs)
Overview & Responsibilities:
The Paramount Podcast Team, a centralized business group within Paramount Global, is in search of an experienced audio creative executive to join as Vice President, Editorial (News and Documentaries). An integral part of the Podcast Team, the Editorial VP will lead the development of all editorial for News and Documentary podcasts within the Paramount portfolio. This role will work across multiple brands, including, but not limited to, CBS News, Showtime, and Smithsonian, and in close collaboration with leads from Production, Marketing, Business Development, and other internal and external partners. The ideal candidate has a creative and journalistic editorial approach, experience leading podcast development teams, and is well-versed in all forms of audio content and narrative storytelling.
Responsibilities
include but are limited to:
• Oversee the entire development process from original pitch to execution for all news and documentary podcasts, providing notes in-line with the vision of the projects and franchises
• Coordinate day-to-day with Executive Producers (and staff) of key shows and franchises to develop and then implement creative strategies
• Field and assess pitches, evaluate new podcast project submissions, and provide feedback on their value as it relates to the creative direction
• Own development and maintenance of all current podcasts within the genre
• Build editorial goals & critical metrics and connect them to the brand, team, and company
• Work with senior leadership to constantly evolve & refine workflows for the pitch and editorial development process
• Guide creators from the pitch stage through outline, script, production, and post; formulate and draft notes on scripts & cuts
• Collaborate with journalists, show hosts, & other talent and help them develop on-mic skills
• Facilitate regular evaluation and feedback of shows' creative strengths and growth success
• Liaise with all departments including Marketing, Business Development & Strategy, Press, Research, Ad Sales, Business & Legal Affairs, etc. to ensure a seamless launch of podcasts
Basic Qualifications:
• 10 years of experience in content development & current programming with a significant tenure within either audio production or news
• Demonstrated track record developing successful podcast series
• Background in newsroom / podcast management
• Experience leading largely distributed editorial teams, and cross-functional projects and initiatives
Additional Qualifications:
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including working effectively within a collaborative team environment across different managerial levels
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast-paced, matrixed environment of multiple priorities and partners
• A proactive and innovative go-getter with a positive outlook
• Have a strong command of the broader podcast industry landscape and an interest in keeping up to date with competitive series
