Overview:
The VP of Publicity will work in LA. They will report to the SVP of Publicity, Direct to Consumer. The VP will develop and execute great publicity strategies. These strategies will spark cultural discussions, attract new subscribers, and make Paramount Originals a must-watch. This leader will convert successful publicity into clear business results including media impressions, social interaction, brand growth, and industry trust.
This executive will lead the publicity strategy. They will manage the process from development to premiere and beyond. They will also control media relations, coordinate talent, organize press events, and position content. They will manage relationships with entertainment journalists, trade press, external publicists, and talent representatives. Additionally, they will work closely with the marketing team, the content team, the awards team, and the creative team.
The ideal candidate is a skilled publicity strategist. They have successfully led campaigns that gained a lot of media attention and had a proficient cultural impact. These campaigns also helped grow the audience. Additionally, the candidate knows a lot about the entertainment media land.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Design 360-degree publicity strategies encompassing traditional media, digital platforms, social media, podcast tours, and emerging content channels.
• Partner with content and programming teams to identify publicity opportunities early in the development process.
• Advise on premiere timing, publicity windows, and launch strategies to maximize media impact.
• Aim to secure high-value placements in important outlets including broadcast morning shows, late-night programs, major publications, podcasts, and digital platforms.
• Oversee development of all press materials including press releases, media alerts, episode descriptions, talent bios, and pitch materials.
• Track media coverage and review campaign performance to inform future strategies.
• Navigate complex talent dynamics with mediation and build trust-based relationships with high-profile creators and performers.
• Coordinate talent availability for press interviews, photoshoots, and publicity events.
• Develop talent talking points and prepare talent for media appearances.
• Oversee creation of press kits, screening materials, and event collateral.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of publicity professionals across various levels.
• Work closely with awards team to identify publicity opportunities that support awards positioning.
• Maintain deep relationships with external publicity agencies and consultants.
• Track expenses and ensure campaigns are executed within budget parameters.
• Maintain deep knowledge of entertainment media landscape, industry trends, and competitive strategies.
• Represent Paramount at industry events and cultivate relationships with media organizations and press associations.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field required.
• 10 years of progressive experience in entertainment publicity for television, streaming, or film.
• Preferred Awards Campaign Experience on or supporting awards campaigns including Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG, or Critics Choice efforts.
• Experience managing and developing teams of publicity professionals.
• Experience with both scripted and unscripted content publicity.
• Proven track record securing high-impact media coverage that drives cultural conversation and business results.
• Ability to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed for events, premieres, and campaign deadlines.
