Overview and Responsibilities
The Vice President, Knowledge Management, Business and Legal Affairs, for Paramount Global will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies, policies and templates in connection with essential television development and production deals and negotiations across multiple television studios. This position will dual report into the head of legal affairs for CBS and the head of business & legal affairs for Paramount Media Networks, and will be located in New York or Los Angeles.
• Partner with business and legal affairs leads for television studios within CBS and Paramount Media Networks to develop and implement highly sophisticated deal and negotiation strategies. They will generate and communicate department standard methodologies for a diverse array of television genres. This includes updating department policies on a wide range of legal issues.
• Advise on and explain contract language/history; provide substantive, strategic, and drafting advice.
• Conduct agreement and precedent research; survey deal terms and language to perform detailed comparative and other analyses; make recommendations accordingly.
• Build, update, and optimize internal-advisory resources (e.g., deal guidelines, policy documentation, templates); handle resource sites including access governance.
• Extensive drafting of critical forms, especially synthesis of multiple sources.
• Build and implement processes to track and efficiently deploy template and other updates.
• Partner with the law department’s Legal Systems team and the company’s IT department, on behalf of BALA, to inform the development and maintenance of contract management systems.
Basic Qualifications
• JD and must be a member of the New York and/or California] Bar.
• At least 7 years of equivalent experience in television legal affairs experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of contract law and intellectual property rights, as well as a mastered capability for legal analysis and reasoning.
Additional Qualifications
• Detailed understanding of entertainment industry customs and practices.
• Demonstrated substantial legal drafting skills.
• Ability to build strong internal relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives and generate strong client happiness through quick turnaround and firm decision-making.
• Ability to maintain relationships with key attorneys and agents in the entertainment community.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and consensus-builder, highly collaborative, positive and team-oriented.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Must be able to multi-task under pressure, manage a varied, high-volume workload efficiently and smoothly and operate autonomously within corporate parameters.
