Overview and Responsibilities:
The Senior Coordinator, Intellectual Property will, under the supervision of the Director of IP, conduct and analyze U.S. and international trademark clearance reports to determine the availability of the proposed trademarks for programming titles and ancillary goods and services. They will file trademark applications for the mark cleared in territories around the world. They will also manage a very large portfolio of trademarks, monitor, and handle any due dates, and assist with the enforcement of IP. This includes reviewing watch notices, and analyzing and providing recommendations for oppositions and cancellation actions. This is a hybrid onsite and remote position.
• Conduct trademark clearances, for international program titles and merchandising campaigns through online databases, analyze search results, and present recommendations to internal business clients
• Manage the prosecution of international trademark filings
• Correspond with outside counsel on issues relating to applications including local office objections
• Review, analyze and provide recommendations for enforcement efforts to protect IP in international trademark offices
• Draft affidavits to support our enforcement efforts and settlement agreements subject to the review and approval of the Senior Vice President co-heads of the department
• Evaluate IP portfolio for gaps in protection and strategize with business on new trademark filings
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from a university is preferred
• At least 3 years of experience in comprehensive international trademark portfolio management, including extensive work with managing outside counsel
• Knowledge of related international trademark laws, and management of a large trademark portfolio (15,000 or more) preferred
Additional Qualifications:
• Strong background in international trademark clearance and international trademark prosecution matters
• Ability to analyze legal issues and clearly and succinctly render opinions both verbally and in writing
• Diligent, highly organized, proactive, dedicated, positive, and energetic
• Ability to work independently, and work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Detail-oriented, and capable of prioritizing multiple tasks under tight deadlines in an efficient and organized manner
• A cooperative, team-oriented approach with excellent follow-through skills
