Job Summary
The Director of Preservation is responsible for all aspects of preservation of films and related content owned by Paramount Pictures. This includes film preservation and restoration, audio preservation, music and other paper conservation. In addition the Director will oversee the deliverables team who handle film and TV post production asset preservation, while working closely with the Mastering and Digital Post departments The Director oversees and manages the preservation budget and projects in close coordination with vendors and on-lot services. The position is responsible for research and support of the Archive including history of the library, history of technology, and history of individual films and productions.
Responsibilities
to include, but not limited to:
• Oversee all aspects of preservation of a title:
• historical and technical research to ensure accuracy and appropriate context of work
• managing a team of preservation experts
• coordination with labs and institutional partners and related talent
• photochemical and/or digital replication
• ensure vendor conformance to Paramount workflow and standards
• evaluate requests for high value archival materials
• work with digital archives team to continue to improve inventory systems for preserved assets
• financial tracking and reporting
• Work closely with Archive and Tech Ops teams, ensure preservation deliverables are validated within current and future systems and workflows; maintain close working relationships with relevant team members to ensure deliverables are up-to-date with changing requirements
• Laisse with legal groups to refine deliverables documents
• Works closely and collaboratively with post production departments to ensure smooth delivery of materials post production.
• Work closely with mastering and product production teams to make sure that all materials are collected
• Hold regular meetings with stakeholders
• Update current specs and understand changing standards and technologies
• Provide client-focused responses to queries about Paramount feature films and Paramount film history
• Provide Preservation-related expertise to all branches of the Archives and Tech Ops teams
• Refer internal and external inquiries as appropriate to VP of Archives, Legal Departments, Tech Ops or other relevant Paramount area
• Provide general support for the Archive
Basic Qualifications
Basic qualifications:
• Minimum of 10 years experience working with a studio library
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in the field, with focus on archives, preservation, digital asset management or digital mastering workflows
• Management experience is a must
• Knowledge of history of film picture and audio technology and processes
• Understanding of digital assets and workflows
• Strong research, writing, business analysis and presentation skills
• Experience working in client-focused entertainment industry archive
