The Basketball Analytics Associate will be responsible for data science and analytics functions, as well as assisting with building and maintaining the basketball data infrastructure for the Indiana Pacers. This position will report to the Senior Director of Basketball Analytics and will be responsible for assisting in the acquisition, storage, transformation, extraction, visualization, predictive modeling, and analysis of basketball data in support of basketball operations and decision-making.
The Basketball Analytics Associate will serve multiple functions including assisting in developing and managing basketball data infrastructure, querying data on behalf of users, extracting data from third party vendors, building visualization / software tools, and providing analytics insights and reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in creating, maintaining, and optimizing data ETL pipelines to support operations, software, and analysts.
• Lead reporting efforts for the G-League coaching staff.
• Support coaching and player development staff in crafting and deploying development plans.
• Manipulate, visualize, and analyze large data sets.
• Provide advanced statistical modelling and analysis skills.
• Create dashboards and reports in PowerBI.
• Assist in database maintenance and data cleansing.
• Communicate results clearly and effectively to basketball operations staff through presentations, written reports, and tools.
• Support the gathering of additional data for ad-hoc analysis as needed.
• Develop recommendations and solutions to create efficiencies and improve decision-making throughout the basketball operations department.
• Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, data science, information science, statistics, business analytics, or related field. Graduate degree is a plus.
• Proficiency in both SQL and Python.
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, and Git or version controlling.
• Experience with extracting, transforming, and loading data via API calls, web scraping, STFPs, and other methods.
• Experience with data visualization, dashboarding (PowerBI preferred), predictive modeling, machine learning, and causal inference is highly preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent attention to detail for data quality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Knowledge and experience in the field of engineering, as well as statistical modeling experience. Experience using Microsoft Azure or other cloud architectures (AWS, Google Cloud). Proficiency is highly preferred, and expertise in R is also valued. Must have a solid understanding of relational databases, including Databricks SQL Warehouse, Snowflake, or similar cloud databases.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to scope projects, interpret directions, and create technical diagrams.

Must be a high-level problem solver and issue identifier while dealing with various internal and external constituents to solve problems and deliver projects on time with accuracy and professionalism.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate, and the noise level in the Fieldhouse / game environment is usually loud. The stress level may become high during certain times of the year.
