Indiana Fever Athletic Training/Physical Therapy Seasonal Assistant (Part-Time)
Job Overview: Provide medical/athletic training services to players and personnel of the WNBA Indiana Fever. This position will successfully uphold all WNBA policies, procedures and bylaws. As the athletic training intern this position provides critical support for the Indiana Fever Organization in terms of healthcare and game day preparations. This position is to enhance the skills, knowledge, and preparedness of the athletic training assistant. There will be extensive opportunity for mentorship and growth.
Reports To: The assistant will report to Head Team Physician, Head Athletic Trainer
Responsibilities
and Duties:
• Provide evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for athletes
• Provide practice, shoot around, and game day medical coverage to team for home venues
• Observe how to complete a medical record in the WNBA EMR
• Communicate athlete illness and injury complaints/problems to Head Athletic Trainer
• Communicate pertinent injury or illness information with coaching staff and sports performance staff
• Adhere to and assist with coordinating COVID-19 protocols and procedures
• Including assisting with testing, contact tracing, communication with medical team and public health department
• Communicate with sports performance staff and knowledge of strength and conditioning programs, including coordination of group and individualized injury prevention programming
• Organize and manage athletic training room
• Provide taping, bracing, and first-aid
• Assist/observe with ordering supplies
• Ongoing communication with sports dietitian for patient care
• Ongoing communication with sports psychologist for patient care
• Aid in court setup for home games
• Aid in notifying athletes of WNBA drug testing program
• Management and execution of emergency action plans including communication, EMS activation, AED/CPR delivery and post-event reporting to Head Team Physician, Head Athletic Trainer
• Perform sport science testing including but not limited to movement pattern analysis, Functional Movement Systems, Y-balance Test, and Landing Error Scoring System, Dynamometry
• Responsible for adhering to all Department and Indiana Fever policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the WNBA
• Packing and resupplying for road games
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Education: College or university in a CAATE athletic training program
• Preferred: BOC Certification, ability to obtain an Indiana state athletic trainer license.
• Preferred: Physical therapy experience/education
• Soon to be graduates or current students will also be considered
• Experience in CAATE athletic training program
• Can be Completing clinical rotations in collegiate sports at his/her college or university
• Skills:
• Taping, videography
• Fitting braces
• Evaluation
• Treatment and rehabilitation of injuries
• Must have a valid driver's license
• CPR/AED Certified
• Physical abilities:
• Walking
• Lifting at least 40 pounds
• Typing
• Standing for at least 5 hours
• Carry at least 20 pounds
Employment Type:
• Seasonal position
• Expected hours: 30-40 hours per week
• Must be available to work some evenings, weekends, and nights
