Full Time Job
The Communications Manager reports to the Director, Communications and involves developing both internal and external communications strategies for Pac-12 Networks and working closely with all departments. The Communications Manager will be based in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement strategic PR initiatives to promote Pac-12 Networks
• Identify key media partners, outlets, and influencers in sports media, digital, and traditional media landscapes
• Ideate compelling story angles to help promote all aspects of Pac-12 Networks
• Cultivate relationships with key journalists from local, national and trade outlets
• Pitch stories to both national and local media; achieve visibility for Pac-12 Networks in print, broadcast, and digital media outlets
• Develop and disseminate programming schedules to promote Pac-12 Networks
• Write clear and compelling press releases and by-lined articles
• Increase visibility of on-air talent to further promote Pac-12 Networks
• Utilize knowledge and awareness of current, new, and emerging media trends in the digital and tech space, as well as relevant players
• Identify media trends, news cycles, and proactively manage editorial calendars
• Manage Pac-12 Networks award submission process
• Analyze and measure results of PR programs
• Assist in management of customer care initiatives
• Manage budgets and campaign ROI
• Other duties as assigned by the Director, Communications
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in communications or related subject
• 4-6 years of relevant experience in media, public relations and/or communications
• Thorough understanding of the sports media landscape and the major players within it
• Strong network of B2B and B2C, national business, and trade media contacts
• Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, and written communication skills
• Established relationships with general business, consumer and entertainment trade press/analyst/blogger communities
• Proven successes in both traditional and interactive PR channels
• An acute sense of judgment, tact, and diplomacy
• A strong sense of teamwork and ability to both manage and execute programs
• Proficiency with basic computer and PR applications including Cision, Google Docs and News Alerts, MS Office Apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, )
• Additional technology prowess (WordPress, videoblogging)
• Avid consumer of news, sports, entertainment and pop culture
• Strong personal interest in collegiate sports
• Strong national sports press contacts
• Some travel may be required
Preferred
• Experience in sports media
• Knowledge of international publications and opportunities
• Knowledge of digital media industry including online, mobile, tablets and other emerging technologies
