PAC-12 Broadcast Engineers support 850 live events on national, regional, and streaming networks. Originating from our cutting-edge San Ramon, Ca facility, this position will oversee/troubleshoot the entire broadcast chain from field acquisition transmission through network distribution.
Successful candidates will possess SMPTE 2110/Dante audio working knowledge while maximizing demonstrable skills by combining traditional SDI with IP-based workflows. Experience working within a team, but also independently, will be critical in the delivery of flawless programming with stellar customer service.

Responsibilities:
• Perform broadcast engineering responsibilities, as assigned, in support of remote engineers, Technical Managers, studio operations, and distribution, during live Pac-12 Networks broadcasts.
• Act as first-line support for Production, Post-Production, Transmission, and Media Management teams. Work to quickly resolve issues and advance to the appropriate departments and individuals when needed.
• Participate in installation, configuration, solving, technical support, and repair of new and existing technologies.
• Provision of physical equipment, including case assembly, racking, cabling, electrical, etc.
• Repair of field production equipment as needed.
• Update documentation such as standard operating procedures for the Live Events Team.
• Provide setup and configuration assistance for all control room production equipment and staff as needed. Act as Technical Director, A1, or other production operations positions in an emergency crewing situation.
• Ability, and flexibility, to work within a 24x7 emergency response as facility needs dictate
• Other duties as assigned by department management.
• Limited travel as the need arises.
Requirements:
• Minimum of 5 years experience in broadcast operations and engineering or broadcast maintenance organization.
• In-depth knowledge and experience in IP technology with an emphasis on SMPTE 2110, Dante, NDI, and File Based Workflows as applied to At-Home (REMI) and cloud-based production models.
• Experience with the following technologies:
• Hardware and Cloud-based CODECs (Nevion, Haivision, Imagine Communications) using J2K, H.264, HEVC, HLS, RTMP, RTP-FEC, SRT, ST-2110, and NDI.
• Fiber-based infrastructure and connectivity solving. Experience with fiber splicing is a plus.
• Production control room and studio infrastructure including Grass Valley switchers, Calrec, Ross XPression, RTS Intercom, and Imagine Communications IP-based routing system. (Similar relevant experience is acceptable.)
• Setup and configuration of file-based workflow systems such as vMix.
• Networking skills: router & switch configuration, traceroute, ping, nmap, etc. Understanding of multicast traffic as related to ST 2110 as well as IPTV systems. Enterprise switch configuration experience is preferred.
• Basic Linux and Windows server administration and troubleshooting.
• Google apps (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, etc.)
• Project management tools such as Jira.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to be on-call 24 hours to provide support for advanced issues.
• Ability to lift and move Audio/Visual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, broadcast, or equivalent practical experience.
• Passionate about Pac-12 Sports.
The San Francisco Bay Area base hourly range for this full-time position is $40.00 - $50.00 and can vary if outside of this location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to work location, job-related skills and experience, education, internal parity, and relevant education or training. The range listed is just one component of Pac-12's total compensation package for employees.
