The Lighting Design Fellowship is for both emerging and working lighting/video designers who are looking to either launch a career or to reinvigorate an existing career as a lighting and/or video projections designer.
The selected Fellow will have the opportunity to work with and assist some of the best Broadway and Regional Theatre Lighting Designers. The Fellowship puts designers at the tech table to observe and assist the lighting designers as they create the lighting vocabulary of the play.
This is a four month Fellowship, which will either take place from Jan through April or April through July/early August. The exact dates vary each season and will be determined by the needs of the department.
Successful applicants will have a love of lighting and a curious mind. You will learn to keep track of multiple shows in rep working with Vectorworks, Spot Light, and Lightwright to create and document lighting design drawings and paperwork. Therefore, basic knowledge of these programs is required. Additionally, the Lighting Design Fellow will work with the designer and the lighting crew to focus the shows and to keep track of work notes and changes throughout the tech process. Fellows also track moving lights and follow spots for the shows.
In addition to being familiar with the processes listed above, candidates must have worked as a lighting designer on at least three non-academic productions. Candidates must also be able to commit full time to the Fellowship.
The selected Fellow will receive complimentary airfare, complimentary housing, and a $5,000 stipend to cover expenses.
