Full Time Job
Are you a professional event planner with a real passion for creating events and experiences? We are looking for a charismatic and upbeat teammate to join our fun events and entertainment group in the dynamic world of professional sports entertainment.
Our events & entertainment team is responsible for putting on the show at 43 Thunder home games each year as well as engaging with fans in the arena and throughout the community at watch parties, festivals, season ticket member parties, court dedications and a variety of other scheduled appearances.
You will be presented with production concepts of varying scope from departments throughout the organization. Your role will be to take ownership of each event, acting as the lead planner and facilitator. You will implement and oversee game night concourse and plaza operations and all scheduled Thunder Alley events. We will rely on your combination of event experience, leadership, detailed communications and creative talents to ensure that we consistently portray our brand as you shape events into experiences for our clients, guests and fans. Relationship-building skills are an important part of this role as you work with a wide variety of people internally as well as external vendors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coach, lead and supervise full-time event presentation and mobile experience coordinators
• Guide the event presentation coordinator in the management of part-time event associates and events crew
• Meet regularly and actively with other departments to offer guidance as you plan and execute their event concepts
• Liaise between the Thunder and the Chesapeake Arena (SMG) on game nights
• Communicate effectively with building management (SMG) to provide a detailed work order for each event/game to ensure that all company needs are being met and communicated
• Handle all game night activations on the concourses, outside plaza and Thunder Alley
• Provide planning and creative leadership for all appropriate Thunder events
• Consult with Marketing, Community Relations, Corporate Hospitality, Business Development and Sales to assist with execution of various high-profile events
• Create appropriate concourse, plaza and Thunder Alley activations for various themed games for holidays, Military Appreciation, MLK, Mascot Mania, etc.
• Establish relationships with third party vendors to ensure quality and brand standards are met
• Work closely with department administrative staff to keep an updated master schedule of Thunder games, team events and Chesapeake Arena events
• Maintain good attendance and punctuality
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work or military experience, preferred
• A minimum of three years' experience in professional event planning
• Strong creative mind with the ability to take creative direction and be flexible in the face of change and last-minute initiatives
• Clear and concise decision-making in high-pressure or time-sensitive situations
• Detailed and highly organized with experience meeting deadlines and building successful events from concept all the way through to clean up
• You lead by example with outstanding collaboration and relationship-building talents and extraordinary interpersonal skills
• Confident speaking in front of groups and comfortable interacting with people from all demographics
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record are required
Physical Environment and Schedule:
• Primary work location will be the Thunder corporate office located at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in downtown Oklahoma City but trips to local and regional venues will be required
• Physical requirements may include lifting, bending, traversing stairs or ladders and standing and walking for long periods
• In addition to the office environment, you will work both indoor and outdoor events which may include inclement weather and often include loud music, crowd noise and flashing or strobe lighting
• Work schedule will include office hours as well as evenings, weekends and holidays according to the needs of game and event schedules
This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Director, Events & Entertainment.
