Ohio University Theater Division invites applicants for a full time Staff Costumer/Instructor position specializing in Costume Crafts, Wardrobe, Hair and Makeup, beginning Fall 2019. Because the university seeks faculty members who bring a critical perspective to issues of diversity and multiculturalism, the College of Fine Arts is invested in hiring faculty and staff members who can contribute to the climate of diversity in the Theater Division.
The Production Design and Technology (PD&T) program is committed to a collaborative design process and professional training in theatrical design and technology, preparing students for careers in New York, Chicago, regional and/or international theatre, musical theatre, film and opera markets.
Job Description
Staff Costumer specializing in Costume Crafts, Wardrobe, Hair and Makeup. We seek an experienced, mature, and organized individual to lead the crafts department in both classroom and production functions. This is a nine-month renewable staff appointment.
Strong mentorship of students to enhance both the MFA and BFA programs is critical in our educational environment. The ideal candidate should have teaching knowledge and production experience in: Millinery, Dyeing, Mask-making, Wardrobe management, Stage Makeup and effects (i.e. prosthetics), Hair and Wigs, Jewellery, small Metal-working.
Duties include building and mentoring of costume crafts, hair and makeup components of our production season; establish and enforce shop standards; train and oversee student wardrobe and costume stock teams; teach in areas of specialization; daily supervision and maintenance of the costume crafts shop and costume crafts stock, as well as contribute to instructional and administrative duties in collaboration with two costume faculty and 9-12 graduate student assistants.
Minimum Qualifications
MFA or equivalent professional experience in Costume Crafts and Wardrobe Management.
Teaching ability of multiple Crafts applications, Wardrobe Management, Hair and Make Up
Experience in Wig-making and Makeup design
Working knowledge of all areas in the costume design and technology programs
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in university teaching
Experience teaching and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds
Connections to professional markets
Work Schedule
This position requires daily oversight of the crafts shop plus nights, and weekends, including, but not limited to, technical and dress rehearsals. Hours required as dictated by academic and production schedules.
