DESCRIPTION
The Supervising 2D (Animation) Director will work closely with the Showrunner, musicians, creators, directors, and storyboard artists to block the cinematic style and stage 2D-animated musical segments within the CG-animated episodes. The look and feel of each segment will depend on the theme, story, and musical approach-a variety of styles to explore for this preschool series! The 2D Animation Director will be primarily focused on these segments of the project and apply the responsibilities listed below.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with the Showrunner and Executive Producer to determine the 2D creative direction and goals for the series
- In the early stage of production, work with Studio Leadership to develop the directing approach of the 2D segments
- Work with the partner studio to establish a creative workflow and elevate the 2D animation team to keep quality high, on budget and on schedule
- Provide direction for asset design, storyboards, and animatics in early stages and, later, ongoing notes for work in progress to ensure a consistent style and vision across 2D segments
- Participate in storyboard handouts with the director by communicating storytelling direction, design requirements, and expected level of polish to storyboard teams while being sensitive to production deadlines
- Participate in storyboard and animatic reviews and provide clear notes/drawovers to the Director for revisions as needed for 2D musical segments
- Once animation takes are received from partner studios, provide animation notes along with the Executive Producer
- Attend handout sessions and review the submissions for SFX and Music
- Attend mixes as needed for animation direction
- Aid with final picture lock, providing notes as needed
- Attend Final Picture Onlines to spot any retakes needed before final delivery
- Prepare for and present the direction and progress of work to studio leadership
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead and delegate animation assignments to subordinates
- Communicate effectively (verbally and electronically) with all staff, vendors, and clients
- Stay organized and efficient in a fast-paced working environment
- Execute priority tasks on or before deadlines
- Use and navigate software qualifications proficiently
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading a team
- Exposure to storyboard work on singing/dancing /music videos sequences
- A portfolio demonstrating strong drawing skill and a strong sense of storytelling ability, staging composition, and character acting. We are looking for visual interest, clever cutting, scale, fun, and emotion!
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and keep a team on schedule
- Working knowledge of tools and software such as Cintiq, Photoshop, Toon Boom, Storyboard Pro, FileMaker, Microsoft Suite
