Full Time Job
NPR is seeking a National Desk supervising editor who would help run daily desk operations including editing correspondents, scheduling and planning. This editor is a manager who will supervise assignments and provide editorial guidance to correspondents, freelancers and production staff. This includes preparation of on-air material and content for digital and social platforms. The supervising editor collaborates across news desks and NPR on air shows including Morning Edition and All Things Considered. This editor also manages schedules and planning for the desk.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Edit national correspondents who cover a variety of news topics such as reproductive rights, poverty, etc.
• Help plan coverage of national news issues
• Serve as a key representative of the National Desk in various news room meetings and in other forums across the business
• Handle scheduling of reporters, editors and producers.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor of Arts in Journalism or equivalent years of work experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• At least five years of journalism and management experience in a major news organization.
• Strong news judgment
• Managerial experience of multiple employees / journalists
• Experience editing audio and digital stories
• Experience collaborating with other journalists, and groups of journalists, on news coverage.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Radio editing experience
• Experience editing stories for digital/social platforms
• Ability to work a Sunday through Thursday schedule.
