Full Time Job
NPR Digital Media designs and delivers experiences that grow and engage NPR’s audience across all of our platforms. These include web, mobile, and smart speakers, and represent the fastest-growing segments of public radio listeners. Our purpose is to identify and explore new directions for the renewal of public radio’s value proposition to the next generation of our audience.
Responsibilities:
Planning
• Assist product owners in translating project vision and business objectives into a product backlog
• Facilitate story-mapping exercises to translate product epics into sprint-sized user stories.
• Facilitate product backlog grooming in order to establish an overall product release backlog
• Facilitate sprint planning meetings to plan work for each sprint
• Assist the product owner with continuous discovery sprints
Agile Execution
• Facilitate daily standup meetings
• Track team progress using agile team boards and online agile project tracking tools
• Track agile metrics in order to identify risk, trends, and process adjustments necessary
• Work with the product owner to coordinate sprint reviews with customers and stakeholders at the end of each sprint
Serving and Managing
• Function as a servant leader to one or more scrum teams
• Ensure productivity by fostering team creativity, empowerment and accountability
• Provide feedback to senior leadership as required to support resource planning activities
• Schedule and facilitate sprint retrospectives and develop continuous improvement plans
• Assist in the continuous process of transformation/incremental improvements throughout Digital Media
Training
• Familiarize others with the benefits of Scrum, including training new team members in Scrum and providing Agile Scrum overview training to stakeholders and non-team members
• Participate in the ongoing prioritization of projects with Digital Media based on evolving business priorities
Qualifications:
Education: BS/BA degree. An MBA or MS/MA in Computer Science or Information Technology or related area is a plus
Experience:
• Three to five years’ experience as Scrum Master in scrum or other Agile methodology, ideally for web-related projects
• Experience in one or more of the following environments is desirable: online publishing, digital media, e-commerce, mobile, or online retail services
• Proven skills in leading and motivating agile teams in a dynamic environment
• Experience working in a highly collaborative environment where all team members provide input to major decisions
• Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization on issues of strategy, process, and ongoing operations.
Necessary knowledge, skills, abilities:
• CSM, A-CSM, or CSP-SM required
• 5-10 years’ experience successfully delivering multiple cross-functional projects that fulfilled business and/or IT needs
• 3-5 years of Agile project leadership experience
• Strong knowledge of and hands-on experience with agile project management methodologies (esp. Scrum and Kanban) and tools
• High energy, can-do, results-oriented personality
• Business acumen combined with technical background
• Effective verbal and written communicator; proven ability to influence and embrace change
• Strong analytical, reasoning, and organizational skill
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently or on a team, always showing respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system
• Ability to engender trust and establish actionable consensus among these constituencies
