Production Operations Specialist (Temporary)

Overview
The Production Operations Specialist will be responsible for bridging the gap between the broadcast and digital radio worlds by live-cutting our news magazine shows, encoding audio for our programs and podcasts, and live streaming audio and video of breaking news events. The position will require the ability to think quickly in a fast paced production environment while maintaining a high bar of quality. Ideal candidates will bring experience in audio and video editing, media and workflow management, extreme attention to detail, and a belief in the value of daily news coverage. Together with a team of editors and content creators, this team member will help enhance and translate NPR’s distinctive journalism to new audiences on new platforms.
Responsibilities
• Encode audio and video into multiple file formats for digital distribution using enterprise level encoding software
• Deliver encoded audio and video content to NPR digital archive servers and 3rd party content delivery network(s)
• Monitor live streaming and recording of audio and video on org, member station sites and 3rd party content partners for live breaking news coverage, concerts and other events
• Monitor and maintain NPR digital audio and video archives and transference of the files
• Troubleshoot issues related to digital media encoding, streaming and media file distribution systems
• Respond to breaking news on a 24x7x365 basis
• Document processes, procedures, instructions, and training materials for users
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
BA Degree or equivalent experience in production technologies critical for media distribution.
Required Skills
• Experience with enterprise audio and video production tools (Pro Tools, Logic, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, etc.)
• Demonstrated skills in digital media editing (audio, video, photo)
• Relevant work experience with enterprise media encoding and orchestration tools (Vantage, Signiant, etc.)
• Experience with file-based workflows and supporting technologies such as MAM, transcoding software, audio/video codecs, wrappers and related specifications
• Proven ability to write clear, concise documentation
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to work off-hour shifts, including early mornings, nights and/or weekends.
• Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system.
Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of Cloud Computing
• Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence
• Experience Working with Adobe media Cloud apps
• Experience working with various encoding tools such as Telestream Vantage and FFMPEG
• Project Management skills
• Audio Engineering experience
• S. Degree
