The Product Manager is responsible for identifying and articulating the needs, goals and requirements that guide PRSS ContentDepot projects. Assigned projects typically include technology, user experience, and business components and may be oriented toward internal or external users and stakeholders. In addition, the Product Manager may serve in a project manager role for projects of moderate complexity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the requirements definition process, working closely with external users, internal business stakeholders, and functional teams to best achieve business goals as identified by project/ division/company stakeholders.
• Partners with Interaction Designer in utilizing best practices for user research and user-centered end-to-end design experiences, incorporating user observation and usability testing, web metrics data, market research, surveys and other qualitative and quantitative information.
• Create requirements documentation, functional specifications, process maps, and other written deliverables that capture and communicate the detailed results of the analysis process.
• Work with the project team throughout the project lifecycle to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of identified requirements, particularly during planning and strategy meetings.
• Identify, mitigate and communicate project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure effective, consistent communication with project stakeholders throughout the project, including necessary approvals at necessary project stages, with a special emphasis on communication with external customers: public radio producers and stations as a Subject Matter Expert in broadcast technology.
• Work closely with other project team members to manage project scope, schedule and budget.
• Lead focus groups and participate in collaborative efforts across the organization and industry and keep abreast of industry trends and practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Graduate-level degree, coursework, and/or skills associated with an advanced degree preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Five plus years experience in business and user analysis, and/or client engagement management and customer management and/or information architecture and requirements definition for software, media, or radio related projects.
• Demonstrated experience with intensive technology projects, including systems integration, custom application development.
• Strong familiarity with current techniques and practices of software requirements definition, user-centered design and usability analysis. Ability to lead requirements elicitation discussions.
• Experience with agile and lean startup methodology.
• Experience with implementation and ongoing customization of Web analytics applications, content management systems, and/or other mission-critical business applications.
• Ability to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data and present findings and recommendations.
• Proven skills completing successful work in dynamic, high-stress environment.
• Experience working in a highly collaborative environment where all team members are invited to provide input to major decisions.
• Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization (including senior management and peer groups) on issues of strategy and ongoing operations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently set priorities and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently or on a team, always showing respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system. Ability to engender trust and establish actionable consensus among these constituencies.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• A Familiarity with broadcast operations applications such as ContentDepot, MetaPub, metadata middleware, and automation systems.
